MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis 901 FC announced on Thursday forward Neco Brett underwent successful surgery to repair a right shoulder injury. Brett will likely miss the remainder of the 2024 season with an approximate six-month recovery time.

The Jamaican forward currently ranks second on the USL Championship’s all-time regular season scoring list with 81 goals in the league prior to joining 901 FC ahead of the 2024 season.

Analysis

Brett’s absence for potentially the remainder of the season takes away a key piece of the attacking puzzle for Memphis 901 FC Head Coach Stephen Glass and will put more pressure on others to carry the scoring burden.

Last week’s attacking display against Southern Harm rival Birmingham Legion FC showed the potential this side has and potentially a structure that can get 901 FC back into the playoff positions in the Western Conference. However, this could be a moment for Memphis to also take a look at potential loan options for a true center forward that can provide the elements Brett’s absence will take away.
