The Charleston Battery’s Fidel Barajas has grabbed the spotlight at the Concacaf Men’s U-17 Championship this week, helping Mexico finish top of its group with two goals and two assists in three appearances as El Tri vies for a place at the FIFA Men’s U-17 World Cup later this year.
A late-season signing by the Battery last year, the 16-year-old has emerged as one of the central pieces for Mexico so far this tournament, starting all three games and playing the full 90 minutes in all three contests. Barajas has logged five shots overall, with his strike late to seal El Tri’s victory on Monday night against host Guatemala providing a highlight-reel moment for the young talent.
