PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Wednesday the club had signed defender Patrick Hogan to a one-year contract with a club option for 2024. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Hogan remains in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference after spending his first two pro seasons with the Charleston Battery. He appeared in 37 matches along the Battery’s back line, scoring two goals from his center back position.
“Pat has had a good preseason and is a good communicator in the back,” said Hounds Head Coach Bob Lilley. “He is a good passer and strong in the challenge, and we are excited to have him in Pittsburgh for the 2023 USL Championship season.”
Prior to turning pro the 25-year-old was a four-year collegiate starter at UNC-Charlotte in his hometown of Charlotte, N.C.
The 6-foot-4 defender appeared in 64 games and scored nine goals for the 49ers, who posted 30 shutouts during his four seasons. He was a two-time All-Conference USA First Team selection, and as a senior in 2020-21, Hogan was the Conference USA Defensive MVP. While in college, he also played the 2019 season with Discoveries SC in USL League Two.
