The attacking prowess of the Charleston Battery and Louisville City FC were on full display this past weekend.

For each, the weekend delivered landmark performances which also now stand as record-setters in the USL Championship’s history. In this week’s edition of News & Notes we look at the Battery’s Nick Markanich and MD Myers’ concurrent scoring streaks, LouCity’s historic run of home form, and where Markanich stands among the best individual nine-game starts to a regular season campaign.

We also have notes on Miami FC’s streak-ending victory against San Antonio FC, and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC midfielder Kenardo Forbes’ ascent to the top of the Championship’s all-time regular season minutes table. There’s also our regular look ahead to upcoming landmarks among the league’s players, and the Week 9 Discipline Report.

Let’s begin.

NEWS & NOTES

M&M BOYS SET RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE GAMES WITH GOALS

The Charleston Battery’s Nick Markanich and MD Myers became the first teammates to both record goals in four consecutive games during Charleston’s victory against Las Vegas Lights FC. The duo have each found the net in each of the club’s current four-game winning streak against Louisville City FC, Indy Eleven, FC Tulsa and Las Vegas.

Previously a small collection of teammates had registered goals in three consecutive games alongside each other, including the feat of the trio of Phoenix Rising FC teammates Adam Jahn, Solomon Asante and Junior Flemmings each scoring in three consecutive games during the 2019 season. That run was part of a longer individual streak achieved by Asante that capped at seven games.

Most Consecutive Games with Goals by Teammates in USL Championship Era
MD Myers & Nick Markanich (CHS) – 4 games (4/9 to 4/27, 2024)
Danny Trejo & Cal Jennings (LV) – 3 games (6/11 to 6/24, 2022)
Hadji Barry & Michee Ngalina (COS) – 3 games (8/14 to 8/28, 2021)
Solomon Asante, Junior Flemmings & Adam Jahn (PHX) – 3 games (5/18 to 6/7, 2019)
Enzo Martinez & Jorge Herrera (CLT) – 3 games (7/4 to 7/15, 2017)
Dom Dwyer & Jamie Watson (ORL) – 3 games (5/26 to 6/10, 2013)

LOUCITY SETS LEAGUE FIRST IN HOME GOALSCORING STREAK

Louisville City FC took a 6-0 victory against Hartford Athletic on Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium. In the process it became the first club in the USL Championship era to record at least five goals in three consecutive home league contests, having previously taken a 5-0 win against Birmingham Legion FC on March 30 and a 5-3 victory against Indy Eleven on April 6.

LouCity has previously recorded three five-goal performances at home in a season once during the 2019 campaign. Three teams have previously recorded four five-goal home performances in a single season in the Championship’s history with the New York Red Bulls II and LA Galaxy II both doing so in the 2018 season and Real Monarchs SLC following in the 2019 season.

With the club’s current run of goalscoring, LouCity has also recorded the most goals by a team through seven games of a Championship regular season. The club’s 23 goals in seven games surpassed the 21 goals recorded in the opening seven games of the season by Orlando City SC in 2013 and Phoenix Rising FC in 2020.

Most Goals through first seven games of a Championship Regular Season
23 – Louisville City FC (2024)
21 – Phoenix Rising FC (2020)
21 – Orlando City SC (2013)
19 – Phoenix Rising FC (2021)

BATTERY’S MARKANICH RECORDS BEST INDIVIDUAL NINE-GAME START IN A DECADE

The Charleston Battery’s Nick Markanich became the club’s first player to record a four-goal performance in the USL Championship era on Saturday in the Battery’s 6-0 victory against Las Vegas Lights FC, and in doing so reached 11 goals this season in nine appearances for the defending Eastern Conference title-winners.

That stands as the most goals scored by a player in the opening nine appearances of a season since Dom Dwyer recorded 12 goals in nine appearances for Orlando City SC at the start of the 2013 Championship season.

Most Goals through first nine appearances of a Championship Regular Season
12 – Dom Dwyer, Orlando City SC (2013)
11 – Nick Markanich, Charleston Battery (2024)
10 – Hadji Barry, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (2021)
10 – Junior Flemmings, Phoenix Rising FC (2020)
10 – Dane Kelly, Reno 1868 FC (2017)

Markanich also became only the second player on record in the USL Championship era to have notched four goals and one assist in a regular season contest. He joined former Reno 1868 FC forward Danny Musovski, who had four goals and one assist against the Tacoma Defiance on September 10, 2019.

MIAMI COMEBACK WIN ENDS SAN ANTONIO STREAK

Miami FC rallied from an early deficit to take a 2-1 victory against San Antonio FC on Saturday for its second win of the 2024 season. The victory ended a run of 65 consecutive games in which San Antonio had not suffered defeat after scoring the opening goal in a game that dated to a 2-1 loss against Austin Bold FC on October 4, 2020.

Over that span, San Antonio has lost only once when holding a lead overall. SAFC fell 4-2 to New Mexico United on October 20, 2021 after holding a one-goal lead at the halftime break.
