Long-range drive that sparked comeback victory against Independence claims award

TAMPA, Fla. – Loudoun United FC midfielder Connor Presley has earned the USL Championship Fans’ Choice Goal of the Month for May of the 2019 season for his tremendous long-range finish that helped spark his side to a 3-1 victory against the Charlotte Independence at the Sportsplex at Matthews on May 11.

An offseason arrival from San Antonio FC, Presley has notched a pair of goals so far this season for the expansion side. His tally against the Independence arrived just before halftime as a lucky deflection in the Charlotte half allowed United to get onto the attack, giving Presley space to open up and shoot powerfully into the left corner of the net from 25 yards out. The goal pulled Loudoun level at halftime and the visitors then struck twice early in the second half to take their second road win of the season.

Presley’s goal earned 45 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com over the past weekend. Tacoma Defiance’s Shandon Hopeau finished second on 15 percent for his record-setting goal after just nine seconds against Reno 1868 FC at Cheney Stadium, while Las Vegas Lights FC’s Junior Sandoval took third with 10 percent for his long-range blast against Sacramento Republic FC at Cashman Field.
