LEESBURG, Va. – Loudoun United FC announced on Thursday it had acquired forward Kyle Murphy for the club’s inaugural season in the USL Championship, pending league and federation approval.

“We are thrilled to add another exciting attacking player to our roster ahead of the opener,” said Loudoun United Head Coach Richie Williams. “Kyle has been in the USL for the last couple of years and we’re looking forward to using his experience and understanding of the league in our inaugural season.”

Murphy joins Loudoun United FC after spending three years in the USL Championship, over which time he recorded 11 goals and recorded three assists in 71 appearances in the league. The 26-year-old began his professional career with Rio Grande Valley FC where he recorded 10 goals and three assists in 55 appearances for the Toros.

A season ago he moved north to the Toros’ Texas rival San Antonio FC and recorded one goal in 16 regular-season appearances for the club. He also found the net in San Antonio’s 4-0 win against Midland-Odessa FC in the Second Round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on May 17, 2018.

Originally from Red Hook, N.Y., Murphy competed for Clemson University prior to his professional career, and in 2014 helped the Tigers claim the ACC Men’s Soccer Tournament.
