Nashville SC prevails 3-0 on cold night in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL (Feb. 17, 2019) - Birmingham Legion FC lost to Nashville SC in the first-ever meeting between the USL Championship Eastern Conference foes. The match offered close to 2,000 season ticket holders a chance to get into newly renovated BBVA Compass Field and watch the boys in white compete.

Head Coach Tom Soehn again sent out a first-choice line up to start the exhibition, with midfielder Daniel Johnson coming on for Joe Holland as the only change from last Wednesday’s contest.

Legion FC held on to a bit of sustained possession to begin the match but found it hard to create many chances in the first half. After a breakaway down the right side, Nashville forward Alan Winn played in a short cross that last year’s USL Championship Golden Boot Winner, Cameron Lancaster, put away for the first goal in the 31' minute.

Both teams made substitutions to the full starting XI in the second half, and the Legion FC attack picked it up a bit, to the tune of four shots in the first 20 minutes, but the break through never came. Nashville killed that bit of momentum with a goal from Taylor Washington in the 65’ minute and then added a third late in the 86’ minute by Ropapa Mensah.

Birmingham Legion FC’s inaugural USL Championship regular season kicks off March 9 at home versus Bethlehem Steel FC at 6 PM. For all ticketing information, go to bhmlegion.com/tickets, and for match day info follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram @bhmlegion.
