SAFC Opens Preseason Campaign with Win

San Antonio FC earned a 3-1 win in a preseason friendly against FC Dallas (MLS) on Saturday. Goals from Billy Forbes, Amer Didic, and a trialist earned the Alamo City club a win in its first preseason match.

“It’s always good to play against quality opposition like FC Dallas who presents you with challenges,” SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell said. “We saw that throughout today’s game, but our guys responded well. We managed to get two goals in the first half but were very patient in our approach overall.”

SAFC opened the scoring in the eighth minute when midfielder Billy Forbes headed in a free kick from Rafa Castillo to give the Alamo City club the 1-0 lead. The hosts had a chance to equalize just five minutes later from the penalty spot following an SAFC foul inside the box, but midfielder Pablo Aranguiz’s shot went just wide of the goal.

San Antonio FC then doubled its lead with a set piece from Castillo just before the halftime break. Midfielder Jack Barmby found the ball inside the box and laid it off to defender Amer Didic, who buried it far-post for the 2-0 lead.

The hosts narrowed the gap just six minutes into the second half after a mistake by SAFC in their own half resulted in forward Zdenek Ondrasek dribbling in on goal and finishing with a powerful shot to make it 2-1.

SAFC then sealed the win in the 81st minute after midfielder Ethan Bryant found a trialist in on goal with a through-ball, which he buried past goalkeeper Kyle Zobeck for the 3-1 lead.

San Antonio FC will return to preseason action on Saturday, Feb. 16 as they take on Saint Louis FC at Toyota Field in a closed-door match.
