David, Curinga and Brown among new arrivals for Nielsen’s squad

Tyler David, Kyle Curinga and Jonathan Brown have all made at least 35 appearances previously in the USL Championship.

HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic continued to build its squad for its inaugural season in the USL Championship with the signing of five players, including four who bring previous Championship experience to the squad in defender Kyle Curinga, midfielders Jonathan Brown and Tyler David and goalkeeper Jacob Lissek. The signings are pending league and federation approval.

David made 50 appearances in the Championship over two seasons with Saint Louis FC in the 2016 and 2017 seasons after being originally selected by Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft. A 24-year-old midfielder, David joins Hartford after a year in Finland playing for Bollklubben-46.

Curinga spent the 2018 season with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he made 11 appearances during the regular season. The 25-year-old had previously played for fellow Championship side Real Monarchs SLC, where he made 26 appearances in the 2017 season and helped the Monarchs claim the USL regular season title.

Brown spent the past two years with fellow Championship side OKC Energy FC, where the 28-year-old made 37 appearances for the club. The 28-year-old native of Wales had previously played for Bangladesh Premier League side Abahani Limited Dhaka in 2016, where he helped the team to win its fifth championship in the club’s history with four goals and four assists in seven appearances. Brown has also previously competed for Cardiff City, Rayong United FC and Hereford United FC.

Lissek, who last season was with Penn FC, is joined in the goalkeeping corps by Mike Novotny, who began his professional career in Sweden last fall after playing collegiately for Eastern Illinois University. The duo will join Danish goalkeeper Frederik Due in the club’s squad as Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen builds his team for its first outing against ATL UTD 2 on March 9.

“I love the level of competition we’ve created in goal,” said Nielsen. “I expect Jacob, Mike, and Frederik to push each other every day in practice and help make each other better goalkeepers.”
