HERRIMAN, Utah – Former USL Cup champion Noah Powder was unveiled as the latest signing by Real Monarchs SLC on Wednesday, with the Trinidad & Tobago U-20 international being joined by Honduran forward Douglas Martinez for the 2019 USL Championship season at Zions Bank Stadium. Both signings are pending league and federation approval, while Martínez’s signing is pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

Powder, 20, spent the 2018 season with Orange County SC where he logged 1,636 minutes in 22 appearances. Making 16 starts at left back for OCSC, Powder notched three goals and added two assists as he helped Orange County finish on top of the Western Conference and reach the Western Conference Final of the 2018 USL Cup Playoffs.

“Noah was one of the top left backs in the USL last season and having over fifty USL matches under his belt at 20 years old is massive,” said Monarchs General Manager Dan Egner. “Left back is a tough position to fill, and we couldn’t be happier to bring Noah in to fill that role for us. Noah has set goals that he is determined to reach, and we hope to continue Noah’s development and help him reach those goals.”

An Edison, New Jersey native, Powder spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons with New York Red Bulls II where together with Monarchs defender Konrad Plewa he helped the club claim the USL Cup in 2016. Powder has also featured for the Trinidad & Tobago U-17 and U-20 sides since 2016.

“I'm very excited join The Real Monarch's for the 2019 season,” said Powder. “The Monarchs are a club with great potential. I will be looking to make the most of this opportunity in helping this club bring the USL Cup to Utah.”

Martinez, 21, spent the 2017-18 season with C.D.S. Vida in his second stint with the club, having featured for the Honduran side in four seasons prior to 2018 beginning in 2013 when he made his professional debut at 16 years old.

“Douglas comes to the club with quite a bit of experience, both at the club level and the international level,” Egner said. “He has shown quite well during his time with the Honduran youth national teams and is no stranger to the USL. We think Douglas is one of the most prolific forwards in CONCACAF for his age group and we look forward to watching him develop and mature as a player with the Monarchs.”

Martinez has also previously featured in the USL Championship having featured on loan with the New York Red Bulls II in 2017 when he logged 485 minutes in 16 appearances for the side, scoring one goal. Martinez totaled 1,230 minutes and three goals in his time in the Honduran top flight.

“I’m very excited to join such a great team and organization like the Monarchs,” Martínez said. “I’m eager to start working with the team that is always competing for the title at the USL level and producing great players for the first team and Europe.”
