SAN ANTONIO – Wherever his career may take him, there seems to be a gravitational pull to the city of San Antonio for Turks & Caicos international Billy Forbes, who on Wednesday was announced as the newest signing by San Antonio FC for his second stint with the club.
A USL Championship All-League Second Team selection in 2017 for SAFC after posting 10 goals and a club-record nine assists, Forbes said he was excited to return for what will be his fourth professional season in the Alamo City overall after spending last season with Western Conference rival Phoenix Rising FC.
“I am excited to be back with this organization,” said Forbes. “San Antonio has been home for a long time, so it feels great to come back and play for the fans who have supported me for my whole career.”
Forbes made 31 appearances for SAFC two seasons ago, earning selection to the Championship Team of the Week on four occasions. He was named the USL Championship’s Player of the Month for March/April after he scored six goals and recorded three assists in the first seven games of the year. His performance helped San Antonio finish second in the Western Conference as it reached the USL Cup Playoffs for the first time.
“We are excited to have Billy back for 2019,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He had a successful campaign with SAFC in 2017 and he is very familiar with the area and the club. He is an exciting attacking player that can produce opportunities for others while creating chances for himself as well.”
Overall, Forbes has appeared in more than 130 matches for four different clubs, amassing more than 10,000 minutes of action. He also serves as the captain for Turks and Caicos and scored a pair of goals for his country in its 3-2 victory against St. Vincent & the Grenadines in Concacaf Nations League Qualifying this past November.
