OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC will be without one of its key players from the past two seasons for the 2019 USL Championship campaign after it was announced on Tuesday evening that it had agreed to mutually terminate the contract of midfielder Jose Barril to allow him to join Coruxo FC in his native Spain.

The 26-year-old Barril led Energy FC in numerous categories in the 2018 season, serving up nine assists and 56 chances created while also recording a team-high 62 tackles won and 219 duels won in 33 appearances in the regular season.

“We greatly appreciate Jose’s time in Oklahoma City and wish him the best in his future personal and professional endeavors,” said Energy FC General Manager Jason Hawkins.

A 2016 USL Championship All-League selection for Penn FC, Barril had previously helped lead Penn to the USL Cup in the 2014 season and recorded 13 goals and 26 assists in 145 appearances across the regular season and USL Cup Playoffs over the past five seasons. Barril's 26 regular-season assists are the third-most in the Championship's history.

Coruxo FC currently sits in ninth place in Group 1 of Spain’s Segunda B just past the midway point of the season.
