EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC added an experienced piece to its midfield contingent on Thursday with the arrival of veteran Irish midfielder Richie Ryan for the club’s inaugural USL Championship season.

Ryan competed for FC Cincinnati in the 2018 Championship season, continuing a career that has spanned 15 years, more than 300 professional appearances and two continents.

“Having known Richie personally for a few years, coupled with his undoubted quality and winning pedigree on the field, I am honored to have the opportunity to work closely with him again,” said Locomotive FC Head Coach Mark Lowry. “The high standards he is going to bring to our group both on and off the field will go a long way to helping us achieve the goals that we have set.”

Ryan made his professional debut with Sunderland in the Premier League in the 2002-03 season, making his debut as a substitute in against the Black Cats’ biggest rival Newcastle United FC. After an 11-year career in Europe, which also saw him compete in the Scottish Premiership for Dundee United and the Belgian First Division for Royal Antwerp, Ryan moved to North America to join Ottawa Fury FC for the 2014 season. The following season he helped the club reach the 2015 Soccer Bowl. Prior to his arrival in Cincinnati last season, Ryan had also competed for Jacksonville Armada FC and the Miami FC.

“I want to thank the ownership and upper management at El Paso Locomotive FC for helping me bring in an individual of this caliber,” added Lowry. “Big thanks to Richie and his agent for making the process a smooth one.”
