Former Republic FC forward adds to attacking options for Cooke in 2019

OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Wednesday it had signed forward Christian Eissele to a contract for the 2019 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval. Eissele arrives in Oklahoma City having spent 2018 with Sacramento Republic FC, where he scored five goals and provided three assists in 25 appearances.

“When we played against Sacramento last year, we liked his contributions,” said Energy FC Head Coach Steve Cooke. “He can hold the ball up, bring others into the game – really be someone who can occupy defenders. But more importantly, he can get into the box and score goals afterwards. With the pace we think we’ve got in wide areas, we think Christian can be a really good player for us in the No. 9 position and someone who ads to the group immensely.”

Prior to joining Republic FC, Eissele played in Finland for PS Kemi and FF Jaro and for Swedish club IK Brage, where he scored 78 goals and provided 15 assists in 155 appearances. In 2015, he helped PS Kemi win the Ykkönen, the second division of the Finnish football league system.

The 26-year-old native of Orlando, Fla. joins an Energy FC attack that has also seen the addition of Trinidad & Tobago international Cordell Cato this offseason, with Jamaican international Deshorn Brown also set to return to Oklahoma City after signing with the club late in the 2018 campaign. Cooke believes Eissele will be a good fit for the retooled squad, both on and off the field.

“All of the feedback on Christian is that he’s a great human being, a wonderful, hard-working player and somebody who not only ads on the field but to the culture we’re trying to build as well,” said Cooke.
