Sierra Leone international brings decade of experience to Phoenix

PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC added to its back line on Thursday as the club announced the signing of Sierra Leone international defender Mustapha Dumbuya. Per club policy, the details of the contract will not be made public.

The ten-year veteran began his professional career in 2009 with English club Doncaster Rovers. He also spent time with English sides Crystal Palace, Portsmouth, Crawley Town, and Notts County. Over the last three seasons, Dumbuya has played for Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle FC, making over 30 appearances.

Internationally, Dumbuya has represented his home country of Sierra Leone 12 times. He made his international debut in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tunisia on October 14, 2012.

“Absolutely honored to sign with Phoenix Rising and start this new chapter in my football career,” Dumbuya said. “I had the opportunity to come over last summer to train for a bit, see the great set up, witness the direction and meet the players and coaching staff and as I was so warmly welcomed, it already felt like home.  Looking forward to putting in all the necessary work to contributing to our quest for trophies.”

With the addition of Dumbuya, Rising FC’s roster now stands at 19 players for the 2019 season.
