PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced on Tuesday it had signed Cape Verde forward Steevan Dos Santos to a one-year contract with a club option for the 2020 season, pending league and federation approval. The signing reunites Dos Santos with Hounds Head Coach Bob Lilley, with whom he claimed USL Cup in the 2015 season.

Dos Santos recorded 21 goals and three assists in 51 appearances for the Rochester Rhinos during the 2015-16 USL Champioship seasons, helping the side claim USL Cup in 2015 as he scored two goals in the USL Cup Playoffs.

“Steevan is a versatile target player who can help the team win games in many ways,” Lilley said. “He can score goals, set up goals and hold the ball in tight areas. His size allows him to be a factor on restarts at both ends, and his willingness to work for the team is exceptional.”

The 29-year-old spent the past two seasons with Ottawa Fury FC, where he recorded 15 goals across two seasons. Dos Santos led Fury FC with 10 goals in the 2017 campaign to finish as the club’s leading scorer and finished tied for the team-lead with five goals this past season.

MEMPHIS SIGNS LEVENE, MUCKETTE: Memphis 901 FC added to its inaugural squad on Tuesday with the signing of goalkeeper Scott Levene and midfielder Duane Muckette, pending league and federation approval.

Levene is the first goalkeeper signed by 901 FC as he joins the club after making four appearances for the New York Red Bulls II in his rookie campaign last season. He previously starred collegiately at the University of Connecticut, making 70 consecutive starts for the Huskies to end his career, including 31 clean sheets, dating back to 2014. Prior to college, the Stamford, Conn., native was a member of the U-14/15 United States National Teams.

A native of Trinidad & Tobago, Muckette joins fellow Soca Warriors midfielder Leston Paul and defender Triston Hodge in Memphis' squad. Formerly of Central FC, Muckette finished second on the team last season with seven goals in 18 matches, helping the club to second in the league. Muckette was also previously captain of the U-17 and U-20 Trinidad & Tobago National Teams.

“Scott and Duane are two very exciting young players that we are pleased to welcome to our squad,” said 901 FC Head Coach Tim Mulqueen. “Scott is a goalkeeper who has worked extensively with myself and Tim Howard since his youth soccer days. We believe Scott possesses all the qualities of a top professional goalkeeper.

“Duane is an electric and dynamic young player. He has great energy, and his ability to stretch the defense will be very important for us. Duane possesses the work ethic that the City of Memphis will certainly recognize and appreciate.”

NASHVILLE ADDS DEPTH TO SQUAD: Nashville SC announced it had signed defender Malcolm Stewart and goalkeeper Danny Vitiello to its 2019 squad, pending league and federation approval, adding depth at both positions.

Stewart brings extensive experience from Jamaica’s Youth National Team set-up, having been part of Jamaica’s U-17 World Cup qualifying squad in 2013, U-20 squad in 2015 and trained with the U-23 squad in 2017. The 22-year-old attended UNC Charlotte and was a pivotal part of the 49ers backline that recorded eight shutouts and allowed only 15 goals in 20 games en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance in the 2015 season. Since college, Stewart has played for the Ocean City Nor’easters of USL League Two and last season trained with LA Galaxy II of the USL Championship.

“Malcom is a terrific prospect and has many qualities that are needed in the modern game,” said Nashville Head Coach Gary Smith. “He has tremendous pace, good physical stature and is hungry to achieve.”

Vitiello, 22, recently finished a standout career in net at the University of Albany, making 60 starts over his four-year career. He recorded 24 shutouts, including 10 in 15 starts as redshirt junior. That season, Vitiello led Albany to the NCAA Tournament and recorded a shutout victory over Maryland in the first round. Vitiello also appeared for USL League Two side Long Island Rough Riders in 2018, leading them to a second-round appearance in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

“Danny impressed whilst trialing during the summer and then reinforced his credentials in our invite only tryouts in December,” said Smith. “He fits the criteria for our club perfectly both physically & technically, whilst showing all the desire you would expect from a young player.”
