Former Ghana U-20 international joins club from Sweden’s IFK Göteborg

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham Legion FC announced on Wednesday the signing of Ghanaian forward Prosper Kasim on a multi-year contract, pending completion of a P1 visa and an International Transfer Certificate (ITC). The attacker joins Legion FC after spending two years in Sweden’s top flight, Allsvenskan, with IFK Göteborg. In 2018, he was loaned to Mjällby AIF in Sweden’s second division, where he scored 10 goals and notched three assists in 27 matches and helped Mjällby gain promotion to the Allsvenskan.

“Prosper is an electric, attacking player,” said Legion FC President and General Manager Jay Heaps. “We are excited to add a young but already experienced player to our roster.”

Kasim was a member of Ghana’s U-20 National Team at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup as an 18-year-old, where he helped the country reach the Round of 16. IFK Göteborg acquired Kasim following the tournament from Ghanaian club Inter Allies, and he joined the club’s first team roster while featuring for the Göteborg U-21 team in 2015 and 2016. He then spent the 2017 season on loan from Göteborg to Norrby IF, also in the Swedish second division. The winger played 21 times and scored three goals with two assists.
