PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC announced on Tuesday it had signed defender A.J. Cochran for the 2019 USL Championship season pending league and federation approval.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of such an amazing organization and help bring more trophies to the club and Phoenix Rising fans,” Cochran said.

The center back spent the 2018 season with fellow USL Championship side ATL UTD 2, where he made 30 appearances and logged 2,697 minutes for the side. Cochran wore the captain’s armband as he led the side in clearances (144), blocks (34), tackles won (45), duels won (214), and aerial duels won (133) while winning more than two-thirds of his duels and aerial duels over the season. Cochran also registered two assists and 17 key passes for the side.

The 25-year-old has made 78 appearances over the past four seasons in the USL Championship, having first competed on loan with the Charleston Battery from the Houston Dynamo in the 2015 season. Cochran spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons with hometown club Saint Louis FC in the USL Championship before joining ATL UTD 2 for its inaugural season this past year.
