San Antonio Adds Barmby to Midfield Corps

Recorded six goals, three assists for Portland Timbers 2 in 2018 season

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio FC announced on Monday it had signed midfielder Jack Barmby for the 2019 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.

Barmby joins San Antonio FC after making a single-season high 31 appearances on loan with the Portland Timbers 2 in the 2018 USL Championship season. Barmby scored six goals and recorded three assists in 25 appearances for T2 as it reached the USL Cup Playoffs for the first time in its history.

“Jack is a player that has caught our eye since he joined Portland in 2016,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “He is an exciting player with a very good left foot. He can contribute to our team in several different positions, and we look forward to him helping us on the attacking side of the ball in the 2019 season.”

Barmby also recorded 29 regular-season appearances for the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer, first joining the club on loan from the Premier League’s Leicester City during the 2016 season. The 24-year-old joined the Timbers on a permanent deal prior to the 2017 MLS season, and appeared in the MLS Cup Playoffs for the side that season.

Barmby joined the professional ranks with Manchester United in 2013 after coming through the club’s academy system in the previous five years. An England U-20 international while at United, Barmby went on loan to Hartlepool where he five goals in 17 appearances. In 2014, Barmby arrived at Leicester City, and had stints on loan with Rotherham and Notts County before joining the Timbers on loan in 2016.

“I am excited for the upcoming season,” said Barmby. “I am looking forward to joining the organization and can’t wait to get into the city and get going.”
