Locomotive FC signs midfielder Yuma; OCSC brings back five members of 2018 squad

PHOENIX – Phoenix Rising FC announced on Wednesday that Jamaican international midfielder Kevon Lambert would return for the 2019 USL Championship season. Per club policy, the details of the contract will not be made public.

Lambert joined Rising FC in August 2017 and played a key role this past season as the club claimed the Western Conference championship. Lambert recorded three goals and four assists in 32 appearances in 2018, while leading the club in tackles won (59) and duels won (118). He also finished third on the club in aerial duels won (82).

The 21-year-old, who becomes Phoenix’s 14th player to sign on for 2019, also has experience with the Jamaican National team. Lambert made his international debut in February 2017 against Honduras and started four matches for Jamaica during the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup, where the side reached the final having defeated Mexico in the tournament's semifinals. In 2018, Lambert was called up to the squad in September and started in an international friendly against Ecuador.

“It’s an honor to be back with this organization,” said Lambert. “I can’t wait to get back to work, pick up where we left off last season and bring that championship to Phoenix!”

YUMA JOINS LOCOMOTIVE FC: El Paso Locomotive added to its inaugural roster on Tuesday as the club announced the signing of Spanish midfielder, Javier Monsalvez Carazo, more frequently known as “Yuma.”

Born in Madrid, Yuma began his youth career with Rayo Vallecano and moved through the ranks making his senior debut with the club in 2005. After playing most of his professional career in Spain, he moved to the United States in 2016 to play for Rayo OKC before joining Puerto Rico FC the following season.

Most recently, Yuma played Jacksonville Armada FC, the former club of El Paso Locomotive FC Head Coach Mark Lowry. Yuma will be the third player from Armada FC on the Locomotive roster, joining Derek Gebhard and Joshua Castellanos who signed earlier this year.

“I am incredibly happy to be bringing Yuma here to El Paso,” said Lowry. “He is a player of tremendous ability and character. Not only does he possess the intelligence and technical ability to control the game from the middle, but arguably his greatest characteristic is his tenacity and desire to win. He is a ferocious competitor, a leader on the field and I know he will feel at home here in the El Paso community. I want to thank Jacksonville Armada for helping with this process, and I cannot wait to reunite with Yuma in January.”

ORANGE COUNTY BRINGS BACK FIVE PLAYERS: Orange County SC also added to its 2019 squad on Tuesday as the club announced five additional players are set to return from the 2018 side that finished atop the Western Conference standings.
