Former Steel FC forward becomes ninth player signed for inaugural season

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico United added another key piece to its inaugural roster on Wednesday as the club announced the signing of forward Santi Moar for the 2019 USL Championship season, pending league and federation approval.

"I am so happy to take this next step in my career, and I am convinced New Mexico United is the right place for me to keep growing as a professional,” said Moar. “Since Troy [Lesesne] and Peter [Trevisani] shared with me this project and their desire to start working towards a championship, the wisest thing I could do was to accept this challenge. I can't wait to get to Albuquerque and give my best to help New Mexico United become a great team on and off the field."

Moar, originally from Ordes, Spain, spent the past two seasons with fellow USL Championship side Bethlehem Steel FC after having been selected in the fourth round of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union. Last season, Moar led all Steel FC players with nine assists, 51 chances created and finished second on the team with six goals in 35 appearances as Bethlehem returned to the USL Cup Playoffs for the second straight season.

The 25-year-old scored six goals and registered six assists and 36 chances created during the 2017 USL Championship campaign, his first as a professional. Moar featured for the Charlotte Eagles of USL League Two in 2016 after playing two collegiate seasons at Pfeiffer University in South Carolina, where he recorded 24 goals and 33 assists over 45 career appearances.

“Santi has proven to be one of the most exciting attacking players in the USL over the last two seasons, and I'm so happy he's joining our club,” said New Mexico Head Coach Troy Lesesne. “He's a player that I've scouted and wanted to work with since his college days at Pfeiffer. I'm not only confident he can replicate the form he was in this past year, but believe he will take an even bigger step forward in his production for 2019.”
