Switchbacks Announce Argueta’s Return for 2019

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC announced on Thursday its had signed central midfielder Rony Argueta for his second stint with the club. The signing is pending league and federation approval.

Argueta was a key figure in the early success of the Switchbacks, leading the club to the USL Cup Playoffs in both the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The California native made 86 appearances for the side and logged 7,065 minutes in his previous three seasons with the Switchbacks, recording four goals and four assists. Argueta also served as the club’s captain in the 2017 campaign.

“I am glad that I was able to get Rony to come back to the Switchbacks. He had a lot of success here and I know he will help us in the 2019 season,” said Switchbacks FC Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. “He is a natural leader and quality player, and he will bring a good competitive mentality back to the team.”

Argueta spent the past season with fellow USL Championship side Fresno FC, where he recorded three goals and one assist in 23 appearances. Over the past four seasons, Argueta’s 109 overall appearances rank tied for 21st in the league while his 8,443 minutes played rank 22nd in the league.

“I’m excited to see how the Switchbacks have grown and will continue to grow in the future. I’m looking forward to working with the Rapids, as our new affiliates, and seeing the construction of the new stadium for 2020. A lot of good things coming for the team and the city of Colorado Springs,” said Argueta. “For our 2019 season, I’m excited to keep learning from my coaches and teammates. I’m looking forward to building a winning team and a great product for our fans and the city of Colorado Springs.”
