Sacramento is set to bring back 11 core members from its 2018 squad

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento Republic FC announced its first roster moves of the offseason on Friday with 2018 USL Championship All-League selections Josh Cohen and Cameron Iwasa among 11 players confirmed to return to the side for the 2019 campaign.

Joining Cohen and Iwasa in having their contract options picked up are goalkeeper Rafael Díaz, defenders Mitchell Taintor and Shannon Gomez, midfielders Keven Aleman, Villyan Bijev, Jure Matjasic and Jaime Villarreal, and forward Roberto Hategan.

Republic FC declined to pick up contract options on the defenders Cole Seiler and Justin Schmidt, midfielder Jeremy Hall and forward Christian Eissele. Defender Emrah Klimenta will also not return to the club after declining his player option for the 2019 USL Championship season.

Defenders Elliott Hord, Carlos Rodriguez and Josh Turnley, midfielders Luis Espino and Hayden Partain, and forward Wilson Kneeshaw saw their contracts expire at the end of the 2018 season, but Republic FC has agreed to terms with Partain for the 2019 season, pending league approval, and is continuing negotiations to re-sign Hall, Hord and Klimenta

“We are bringing back a core of players and are in discussions with others who will be the building blocks for 2019 and beyond,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. “With this strong foundation, we will continue to enhance our roster for the upcoming season with the goal of once again competing for a championship.”
