Center back brings experience from MLS, USL Championship to Music City

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville SC announced on Wednesday it had bolstered its defensive corps with the signing of experienced center back Ken Tribbett, pending league and federation approval. Tribbett brings extensive experience from both Major League Soccer and the USL Championship to Nashville’s back line.

“I am delighted to add Ken to our group,” said Nashville SC Head Coach Gary Smith. “His strength of character and leadership will add yet more quality to our strong back line.”

A native of Colorado, Tribbett has made more than 80 professional appearances over the past four seasons. A finalist for the 2015 USL Championship Rookie of the Year award with the Harrisburg City Islanders, Tribbett was signed by the Philadelphia Union and made his first MLS appearance as a starter for the Union in the 2016 season opener.

Tribbett made 23 regular-season MLS appearances with the Union from 2016-17, including 19 starts. He scored three goals and went the full 90 minutes in the Union’s lone playoff game in those two seasons, a loss in the knockout round in 2016.

“Ken’s experiences and performances in MLS and USL made him a prime target for us this offseason,” said Nashville SC VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director Mike Jacobs. “This acquisition matches our club’s ambition and commitment to sign players that we believe can help strengthen our team while pursuing championships.”

Last season, Tribbett captained Penn FC of the USL Championship and made 21 appearances, all starts as he recorded six goals, tied for the most by a defender in the league. Tribbett has scored 10 goals in the USL Championship over the course of his career, while last season he led Penn with 69 interceptions, 180 duels won and 108 aerial duels won.
