Core of 14 players from 2018 USL Cup campaign set for new campaign

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Two-time defending USL Cup champion Louisville City FC announced on Wednesday that 14 players were set to return to the club for the 2019 USL Championship season, including nine players that include captain Paolo DelPiccolo, George Davis IV, Luke Spencer and Greg Ranjitsingh that featured in both the club’s championship squads.

All signings are pending league and federation approval. Per club policy, terms of individual contracts will not be released.

“I cannot overstate the importance of being able to bring back a significant part of our core group from last season,” said LouCity Head Coach John Hackworth. “Character in the locker room is one of the few things you cannot measure but will absolutely be the primary driver of our success in the 2019 season. We have so many talented individuals and each member of this returning group will serve an important role as we look to accomplish our goal of repeating as USL champions again next year.”

Both DelPiccolo and Davis IV have made 94 league appearances for Louisville City FC since joining the club prior to the 2016 season, with DelPiccolo having earned MVP honors in the 2017 USL Cup. Davis IV has recorded 21 goals and six assists over that span, and this season became the first player in the USL Championship’s history to reach 200 regular-season appearances while also reaching the 50-goal plateau.

Spencer has scored 18 goals and six assists in 53 appearances for LouCity since joining the club prior to the 2017 season. The club’s leader in goals in the 2017 campaign, Spencer this year scored the game-winning goal as LouCity defeated Phoenix Rising FC in the 2018 USL Cup as the side became the first to win the championship in back-to-back seasons.

Ranjitsingh has spent his entire professional career with Louisville and is one of the club’s remaining players from its inaugural season in 2015. The Trinidad & Tobago international set a club record with 13 shutouts this past season and has recorded 188 saves and 36 shutouts in 89 appearances all-time for the club.
