Kickers goalkeeper earns spot in Save of the Year voting for stop vs. LouCity FC

TAMPA, Fla. – Richmond Kickers goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg has claimed victory in the USL Fans’ Choice Last-Chance Save voting as his spectacular stretch of stops against Louisville City FC at Slugger Field in April took top spot in the online poll that concluded on Wednesday.

With the game tied 1-1 late in the second half, Spangenberg made three saves in the space of 15 seconds, including a point-blank rebound denial of USL Golden Boot winner Cameron Lancaster, for one of the most impressive short stretches of stops in the regular season.

Spangenberg’s effort, which is now eligible for the Fans’ Choice Save of the Year, earned 47 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com. FC Cincinnati’s Evan Newton finished in a tie for second with 14 percent for his remarkable reflex stop to preserve FCC’s season-opening victory over the Charleston Battery, while Las Vegas Lights FC goalkeeper Thomas Olsen earned 14 percent of the vote for his acrobatic double-save in his side’s November clash against Sacramento Republic FC.
