TAMPA, Fla. – Las Vegas Lights FC forward Sammy Ochoa has claimed victory in the USL Fans’ Choice Last-Chance Goal voting as his scissor-kick against Phoenix Rising FC at Cashman Field in October took top spot in the online poll that concluded on Wednesday.
Ochoa showed off his athleticism by converting Alex Mendoza’s right-wing cross with an acrobatic scissor kick from the center of the penalty area, which provided the exclamation point on Las Vegas’ biggest win of its inaugural season, a 5-2 victory at Cashman Field against the eventual Western Conference champions.
Ochoa’s goal, which is now eligible for the Fans’ Choice Goal of the Year, earned 26 percent of the poll conducted online at USLChampionship.com. FC Cincinnati’s Fanendo Adi finished second with 21 percent for his impressive individual effort in FCC’s 4-3 victory over Toronto FC II, while USL Golden Boot winner Cameron Lancaster took third with 18 percent for his long-distance finish in Louisville City FC’s June clash against the New York Red Bulls II.
