2018 USL All-League selection will join USL Championship’s Nashville SC on loan in 2019 season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – 2018 USL All-League selection Daniel Rios was unveiled on Tuesday as the first signing by Nashville MLS, with the Mexican forward to be loaned to the USL Championship’s Nashville SC for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.

“Signing Daniel as our first MLS player shows our commitment to put a talented, diverse and exciting team on the field from day one of this franchise,” said Nashville MLS CEO Ian Ayre. “We look forward to welcoming him to the club and to seeing him play his part in our Major League Soccer ambitions.”

Rios played for North Carolina FC in the 2018 USL Championship season on loan from C.D. Guadalajara of Liga MX and finished tied for second in the league with 20 goals in the campaign to earn All-League First Team honors. Rios made 31 appearances for NCFC, also recording four assists and 34 key passes in the regular season.

“I know that I have to give my best every day, not just for me but for the team, for the fans, for the city,” said Rios. “It will be a huge club, so we are part of that. We have to win games, we have to play well so the club will go up higher and grow.”

Ríos has played in 48 games for Mexico at the youth level, appearing at the U-18, U-20 and U-21 levels for El Tri. The striker was a starter on the Mexico U-20 team that beat the MLS Homegrown squad as part of the events at the 2016 MLS All-Star Game.

“Daniel is the first of many players we will bring to the MLS roster,” said Nashville MLS GM Mike Jacobs. “He has real potential, and we are looking forward to continuing his development over the next 12 months ahead of our entry into Major League Soccer. He is exactly the type of young, exciting talent we have in mind, scoring 20 goals with North Carolina FC and a successful career as a Mexican youth international.”
