Atlanta announces five contract option pick-ups as it moves toward 2019 season

ATLANTA – ATL UTD 2 announced on Friday it had re-signed veteran defender Tyler Ruthven as the club made offseason roster moves that included picking up options on five other players from its inaugural squad.

Ruthven joined Atlanta midway through the 2018 season and recorded four appearances during which he logged 24 clearances, six interceptions and won 11 of 16 duels. Joining Ruthven in returning to the side are goalkeeper Paul Christensen, midfielders Kevin Barajas, Laurent Kissiedou and Jack Metcalf, and forward Yosef Samuel, all of whom had contract options exercised.

Atlanta declined options on goalkeeper Nicolas Caraux and defender AJ Cochran, while Andrew Kendall-Moullin, Shawn Nicklaw and Devon Sandoval are out of contract following the 2018 season.

Additionally, Atlanta midfielder Alessandro Castro and forward Diego Lopez both remain under contract for the 2019 season, bringing the total roster to eight.
