USL Fans’ Choice Last-Chance Vote – Saves

Jake McGuire (BST) - #PENvBST, 7/6/18: McGuire came up with two sterling saves to keep his side in the game on a Penn FC counterattack, denying first Pedro Galvao and then Calvin Rezende from finding the back of the net.

Justin Garces (ATL) - #NSHvATL, 6/30/18: Garces recovered quickly after Nashville SC’s Brandon Allen hit the left post with his initial effort, with the recent U.S. U20 goalkeeper punching away the rebound attempt just before it crossed the goal line.

Diego Restrepo (SA) - #SAvFRS, 5/5/18: Restrepo recovered from making an initial save to be in position to make a diving save off a rasping drive by Fresno FC’s Rony Argueta that preserved a 2-1 victory for the hosts at Toyota Field.

Trevor Spangenberg (RIC) - #LOUvRIC, 4/14/18: Spangenberg made three saves in the space of 15 seconds, including a point-blank rebound denial of Louisville’s Cameron Lancaster, for one of the most impressive short stretches of stops in the regular season.

Josh Cohen (SAC) - #SACvCOS, 4/18/18: Cohen got down brilliantly to keep out a flicked header by Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC forward AJ Ajeakwa that would have opened the scoring for the visitors at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Evan Newton (CIN) - #CHSvCIN, 3/17/18: Newton pulled off a remarkable reflex stop as he parried a first-time finish by the Charleston Battery’s Kotaro Higashi around the left post with a firm save.

Matt Bersano (RNO) – #PHXvRNO, 10/6/18: Bersano produced a great save and recovery to help preserve a shutout on the road against Phoenix Rising FC, first saving from Billy Forbes’ first-time shot and then corralling the rebound before Didier Drogba could pounce.

Thomas Olsen (LV) - #SACvLV, 10/13/18: Olsen tipped an initial effort by Sacramento Republic FC’s Jure Matjasic off the left post, and then recovered in time to smother Villyan Bijev’s rebound chance from inside the six-yard area.

Bryan Byars (OKC) - #STLvOKC, 10/13/18: Having been drawn off his line to the left side of the penalty area, Byars scrambled back to get a hand on a shot from 12 yards by Saint Louis FC’s Kadeem Dacres that kept the teams on level terms.

Evan Louro (NY) - #CHSvNY, 10/20/18: Louro got down impressively to his right to keep out a first-time finish by the Charleston Battery’s Gordon Wild as he turned the shot wide of the left post in New York’s postseason victory at MUSC Health Stadium.
