Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper claims honor for standout save against Rangers

TAMPA, Fla. – Phoenix Rising FC goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Playoffs as his impressive stop against the Swope Park Rangers in the Western Conference Semifinals took top honors in the online poll.

Woszczynski recorded more saves than any goalkeeper in the 2018 USL Cup Playoffs and produced his best effort with a close-range denial on Rangers forward Kharlton Belmar. Belmar cut inside Rising FC defender Tristan Blackmon and fired a left-footed effort towards the far corner, but Woszczynski reacted quickly to parry the ball to safety and keep the game tied at a goal apiece midway through the first half.

Woszczynski’s save earned 51 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Wednesday. Louisville City FC’s Greg Ranjitsingh finished second on 31 percent for his excellent reaction save against the New York Red Bulls II in LouCity’s Eastern Conference Final victory, while FC Cincinnati’s Spencer Richey finished third with 14 percent for his acrobatic stop to deny Nashville SC’s Ropapa Mensah in the second half of FCC’s penalty shootout success.
