CHICAGO – Eleven players with USL experience have been selected to the U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team that will compete in the Concacaf U-20 Championship. The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Nov. 1 at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Ten of the players have appeared in the USL this season, including a quartet of 2018 USL 20 Under 20 selections in No. 11 Jaylin Lindsey, No. 14 Brandon Servania, No. 15 Sam Rogers and No. 18 Matt Real.

Servania made 16 appearances and played more than 1,200 minutes for Tulsa Roughnecks FC this season while on loan from FC Dallas, and Real has started 21 games and played more than 1,800 minutes in defense for Bethlehem Steel FC while on loan from the Philadelphia Union.

Rogers, meanwhile, earned his second consecutive selection to the list as he surpassed 3,000 minutes for his USL career this season, while Lindsey has featured this season for both the defending USL Western Conference champion Rangers and Sporting Kansas City.

Other notable names on the U20 squad include Toronto FC II’s Ayo Akinola, who scored five goals in 16 appearances for TFC II this campaign, and LA Galaxy II midfielder Alex Mendez, who has recorded three assists in 12 all-time appearances for the club.

The U.S. returns to the confederation tournament as the defending champion, having captured its first title at the U-20 level in March of 2017, defeating Honduras on penalty kicks in the final.

As the tournament’s top seed, the U.S. was drawn into Group A and opens the tournament against Puerto Rico (Nov. 1), followed by U.S. Virgin Islands (Nov. 3), Trinidad and Tobago (Nov. 5) and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (Nov. 7) before finishing up against Suriname (Nov. 9).

The top four teams from the 34-team field will qualify for the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, set for May 23 to June 15 in Poland.
