Sacramento Republic FC midfielder’s strike against Swope Park earns top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Jure Matjašič has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 30 of the 2018 season as his smooth strike against the Swope Park Rangers last Wednesday night at Papa Murphy’s Park took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Matjašič sealed three points for Sacramento in a rematch of the 2017 Western Conference Semifinal as he ran onto Elliott Hord’s chipped through-ball and produced a first-time, left-footed volley that flashed past Rangers goalkeeper Adrian Zendejas late in the contest for his second goal of the season.

Matjašič’s goal earned 68 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. Indy Eleven forward Eugene Starikov finished second with 20 percent for his sensational lob of Tomas Romero from the edge the penalty area in his side’s 1-1 draw with Bethlehem Steel FC last Saturday, while Real Monarchs SLC’s Sebastian Saucedo took third for his right-footed volley into the bottom-left corner for his first of two goals in his team’s 2-1 victory over OKC Energy FC last Wednesday.
