Twenty-two standouts selected for action that includes Concacaf, UEFA Nations League contests

Louisville City FC's Speedy Williams (Jamaica), Sacramento Republic FC's Emrah Klimenta (Montenegro) and Indy Eleven's Soony Saad (Lebanon) are among 22 USL players called up for international duty this month.

TAMPA, Fla. – Standout performers from across the USL have been again called up for international duty this week in the Concacaf Nations League, UEFA Nations League and CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying, with 22 USL players potentially set to feature across four continents.

Sacramento Republic FC’s Emrah Klimenta makes his return to Montenegro’s squad as the country squares off with Serbia on Thursday and Lithuania on Sunday in UEFA Nations League C looking to remain on top of a group that also includes Romania. Montenegro and Serbia are level on four points apiece after the opening two games of the round-robin format, making the game in Podgorica key to the side’s chances of reaching the tournament’s semfinals next spring.

Indy Eleven’s Soony Saad also makes a return to the international level with Lebanon, which is currently preparing for next January’s AFC Asian Cup after qualifying for the tournament earlier this year. Saad has scored three goals in 10 appearances previously for his country and will be hoping to impress as the Phoenicians take on Kuwait in an exhibition on Thursday.

The Charlotte Independence’s Joel Johnson will again represent Liberia as it takes on Congo in a home-and-home series that could help either side vault into contention in Group G of CAF Africa Cup of Nations Qualifying. Liberia played to a 1-1 draw with the Democratic Republic of Congo last month in a contest that saw Johnson make his international debut, and the country will be looking for its first win in the group in its upcoming two contests.

Ottawa Fury FC will again be represented in Canada’s National Team as defender David Edgar was selected for the country’s contest against Dominica next Tuesday night at BMO Field in Toronto. Edgar’s call-up follows that of goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau in September, with the experienced center back having previously made 42 appearances for his country.

Jamaica will see the largest contingent of USL representation as it faces Bonaire in Concacaf Nations League qualifying with Louisville City FC’s Speedy Williams and Shaun Francis being joined by San Antonio FC’s Omar Gordon and the Charlotte Independence’s Je-Vaughn Watson. Jamaica took a 4-0 win in its opening game against the Cayman Islands and will be aiming for a similar display to keep it on the path to the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
