Charlotte Independence midfielder’s volley against New York earns top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Charlotte Independence midfielder Greg Jordan has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 28 of the 2018 season as his spectacular volley against the New York Red Bulls II last Saturday night at the Sportsplex at Matthews took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Jordan put Charlotte ahead in the battle of Eastern Conference playoff hopefuls as he ran onto Conor O’Brien’s flick at the top of the penalty area and struck a sweet volley past New York goalkeeper Evan Louro into the bottom right corner for his first goal of the season.

Jordan’s goal earned 34 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. ATL UTD 2 midfielder Alessandro Castro finished second with 27 percent for his fantastic first-time finish from 25 yards out that found the top corner in his side’s game against North Carolina FC on Friday, while Orange County SC’s Noah Powder took third for his stunning chip from just outside of the midfield circle that gave his side the lead in its 5-2 victory over Real Monarchs SLC on Wednesday.
