OKLAHOMA CITY – OKC Energy FC announced on Tuesday it had signed forward Deshorn Brown to a contract through the 2019 season. The signing was completed before the USL’s Roster Freeze last Friday, at which time Brown was officially added to the club’s roster.

Brown has vast experience playing in the United States, having featured for both D.C. United of Major League Soccer and the USL’s Tampa Bay Rowdies in 2017. The majority the Jamaican international’s career was previously spent with Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids, where he scored 20 goals in 62 appearances before being sold to Norwegian club Valerenga, where he scored 13 goals in 37 appearances. Brown most recently played for Spanish club Lorca FC.

“We are delighted to add another player with the attacking quality and experience of Deshorn,” said Energy FC Head Coach Steve Cooke. “He’s a player I’ve been fortunate to work with and know well from the Colorado Rapids. He brings a tremendous ability to score goals and create opportunities in the attack, but just as important is his hardworking attitude, his outstanding character and his positive influence with teammates. We are very excited to have Deshorn and his family with us in OKC for the remainder of 2018 and for the 2019 season.”

A native of Manchester, Jamaica, Brown moved to the United States to attend the University of Mobile in Alabama. He transferred to the University of Central Florida after his sophomore year before being drafted by Colorado Rapids as the sixth overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. He made his professional debut on March 3, 2013 against FC Dallas and scored his first goal on March 16, 2013 against Real Salt Lake.

In addition to competing for the University of Mobile, Brown was also a standout for the Premier Development League’s Des Moines Menace and Reading United AC during his college career, being named to the PDL All-League Team in 2012 when he also claimed the league’s Golden Boot with 13 goals in 13 appearances for Reading.

Brown has earned 14 caps and scored two goals for the Jamaican national team since making his debut on October 11, 2013 against the United States.
