Fury FC midfielder’s Olimpico against Toronto earns top spot in weekly poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Ottawa Fury FC midfielder Cristian Portilla has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 26 of the 2018 season as his spectacular Olimpico finish against Toronto FC II last Thursday night at Lamport Stadium took top spot in the weekly online poll.

Portillo put Fury FC ahead by a pair of goals in the battle between the two Ontario clubs as his in-swinging delivery from the right-sided corner kick produced the goal Fury FC have taken shots at previously this season. With a cluster of teammates crowding the near post inside the six-yard area, Portillo’s curled shot sailed over everyone – including Toronto goalkeeper Morja Angoitia – and found the left side of the net.

Portillo’s goal earned 64 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. Saint Louis FC’s Kyle Greig finished second with 28 percent for his outstanding piece of control and volleyed finish that proved the winner against Reno 1868 FC last Saturday, while Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC midfielder Kenardo Forbes took third for his spectacular drive from 25 yards to the top-right corner against Pennsylvania rival Bethlehem Steel FC last Friday night.
