SAN ANTONIO – After being used sparingly in his time with FC Cincinnati, Lance Laing has found a new home with San Antonio FC. The 30-year-old Jamaican, who was loaned to the Western Conference side on August 23, has hit the ground running since his arrival to help turn SAFC’s fortunes around at a pivotal point in the season.

Two days after joining the club, Laing made his debut as a second-half substitute in San Antonio’s 2-1 defeat against the Swope Park Rangers – the club’s fourth successive setback – as it remained stuck on 34 points and dropped to 10th place in the West.

Since then, SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell has selected Laing in the starting 11 for each of his team’s three matches and the left-footed winger has responded with a goal and an assist in each of them – all three SAFC victories – to help the club jump back into the playoff places.

Laing was influential in attack once again on Saturday in his side’s 3-2 home victory over Phoenix Rising FC as he completed 13 of 20 passes, had four successful crosses and proved to be clinical once again in dead-ball situations. Cyprian Hedrick headed home Laing’s delivery from a corner kick early in the first half to level the contest at a goal apiece, before Laing converted the eventual game-winner from the penalty spot to secure three points and a place in the USL Team of the Week for the second straight week.

Laing’s quality from set pieces has helped him make an instant impact at SAFC as Saturday marked the second consecutive match he registered an assist from a corner kick. Ever Guzman rose highest to head home Laing’s curling delivery at the near post in the 31st minute of last Monday’s 2-1 win over then-Western Conference leader Real Monarchs SLC, which saw San Antonio become the first visiting side to claim victory at Zions Bank Stadium since its opening early this season.

Before Laing arrived at the club, San Antonio had failed to register a single assist from a dead-ball situation in 24 USL regular season matches.

Laing will hope to continue his stellar play from this three-week span, during which he tied for the USL lead in assists (3) and ranked in the top-ten in goals (3), chances created (11) and successful crosses and corners (12).

San Antonio FC will try to continue its charge up the Western Conference standings on Saturday night with a visit to Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field (8 p.m. ET | Match CenterESPN+), where Laing could have the chance to build on a very strong start to his loan stint with the club.
