Battery goalkeeper claims honor for standout save against Rowdies

TAMPA, Fla. – Charleston Battery goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month award for August as his standout save early against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium took top honors in the online poll conducted over the past weekend.

Kuzminsky had previously won the USL Save of the Week award twice this season, and produced a key early save for the Battery in its scoreless draw against the Rowdies on August 8. With Tampa Bay breaking forward in the 49th minute the ball came to Junior Flemmings on the right side and the Jamaican fired toward the left corner, only for Kuzminsky to make a fine one-handed save to turn the shot wide of the post to preserve the shutout.

Kuzminsky’s save earned 44 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday. Sacramento Republic FC’s Josh Cohen finished second on 25 percent for his victory-saving denial of Reno 1868 FC’s Zach Carroll in the derby clash between the sides at Greater Nevada Field, while the Swope Park Rangers’ Eric Dick finished third for his low save on Reno’s Antoine Hoppenot at Children’s Mercy Park.
