Young USL Standouts Selected in U.S. U20, U19 Squads

14 players called up for four-team tournament at IMG Academy, also includes Jamaica, Venezuela

TAMPA, Fla. – Fourteen players who have featured this season and previously in the USL will head to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida this week as members of the United States U20 and U19 National Team squads selected for the 2018 U-20 Men’s Invitational tournament that kicks off on Friday at the world-class facility. Jamaica and Venezuela will also be part of the round-robin tournament that concludes next Tuesday.

Ten players with USL experience were named to the U.S. U20 National Team, including current Charlotte Independence defender Sam Vines, ATL UTD 2 midfielder Andrew Carleton and Tulsa Roughnecks midfielder Brandon Servania, all of whom have featured throughout the current season. Vines has made 24 appearances racking up almost 2,000 minutes of action on the back line for the Independence this season on loan from the Colorado Rapids, while Servania has logged more than 1,000 minutes for the Roughnecks on loan from FC Dallas.

Other notable names on the U20 squad include Seattle Sounders FC 2’s Sam Rogers, who has logged more than 3,000 minutes of action in the league and was named as the No. 5 player in the 2017 USL 20 Under 20, and Toronto FC II’s Ayo Akinola, who received his first call-up to the U20 National Team having recorded six goals in 20 appearances all-time for TFC II.

The U.S. U19 squad also includes four players with USL experience including ATL UTD 2 midfielder Chris Goslin, who has made 15 appearances in the league since his debut a season ago on loan with the Charleston Battery, and the LA Galaxy II’s Ulysses Llanez Jr., who has recorded two goals and eight key passes in 10 appearance this season among stints on international duty.

Also set to be on hand at IMG Academy is the New York Red Bulls II’s Christian Casseres Jr., who has recorded three goals and two assists in 22 appearances this season for the club and last Wednesday made his MLS debut in New York’s 1-0 victory against the Houston Dynamo.
