Win-preserving save in rivalry clash against 1868 FC claims top spot in weekly online poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Sacramento Republic FC goalkeeper Josh Cohen has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 24 of the 2018 season after his outstanding late save against rival Reno 1868 FC at Greater Nevada Field last Saturday night finished top of the weekly online poll.

Closing in on 100 saves this season, Cohen produced one of his best of 2018 in the Donner Pass Derby to preserve Republic FC’s 2-1 road victory against its Northern Nevada rival. With the game in stoppage time, 1868 FC defender Zach Carroll made a strong run forward in the right channel and let fly from the top of the penalty area toward the top-right corner, but Cohen was equal to the task as he turned the effort over the crossbar.

Cohen’s save earned 51 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. San Antonio FC’s Diego Restrepo took second on 28 percent for his remarkable double-save on Phoenix Rising FC midfielder Devin Vega last Wednesday night, while fellow SAFC goalkeeper Matt Cardone finished third on 10 percent for his reflex stop to keep out a chance for the Swope Park Rangers’ Kharlton Belmar last Saturday night.
