Standout fingertip stop against Rowdies claims top spot in weekly online poll

TAMPA, Fla. – Charleston Battery goalkeeper Joe Kuzminsky has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 22 of the 2018 season as his outstanding save to help preserve a shutout last Wednesday night against the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Al Lang Stadium finished top of the weekly online poll.

The award is Kuzminsky’s second of the season, with the Battery shot-stopper having also claimed the honor in Week 17. Against Tampa Bay, Kuzminsky produced an outstanding reflex save as he tipped a good shot by Rowdies winger Junior Flemmings from the right side of the penalty area around the left post. The save was one of two on the night for Kuzminsky, who has combined with fellow Battery goalkeeper Odisnel Cooper on five consecutive shutouts for the side overall and a 452-minute shutout streak going into Saturday’s game against FC Cincinnati.

Kuzminsky’s save earned 44 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. Las Vegas Lights FC’s Ricardo Ferriño took second with 35 percent for his remarkable double-save against Saint Louis FC last Saturday night, while Nashville SC’s Matt Pickens finished third for his stop on  a long-range effort by Ottawa Fury FC’s Carl Haworth last Friday night.
