CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Battery celebrated former player, assistant coach and current Head Coach and General Manager Mike Anhaeuser on Saturday night as the side earned his 199th victory on the sidelines for the historic club with a 1-0 victory against ATL UTD 2 at MUSC Health Stadium. Among the highlights of the night was a tribute video that included messages from former Battery Head Coach Chris Ramsey – now with Queen’s Park Rangers –many of the players who have felt Anhaeuser’s influence in their time with the Battery, and both USL President Jake Edwards and former Battery President Andrew Bell, now Sporting Director of USL Memphis, who was also on hand to celebrate his close friend.
“It’s amazing,” said Anhaeuser. “Some of the people the club got to make statement was amazing. Nigel Cooper and Chris Ramsey... everybody I’ve been associated with at this club has been fantastic. I thought it was a great night. Having my family here was just wonderful. It’s been 25 years, but it feels like five or ten. It feels like I just got here. This is a great club and I hope we have success for another 20 years whether I’m here or not.”
Here are some of the sights and sounds from a memorable night on Daniel Island.
