North Carolina goalkeeper takes award for third time this season for save vs. Toronto

TAMPA, Fla. – North Carolina FC goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month award for the third time this season as he claimed July’s honor for his outstanding stop against Toronto FC II at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park following the online poll conducted over the past weekend.

Tambakis had previously claimed the awards for April and June, and did so again thanks to a remarkable diving save early in the second half to deny a powerful shot by Toronto’s Tim Kubel that was heading to the top-left corner. The save kept NCFC side on level terms with its visitors and helped pave the way for a 3-1 victory for the hosts.

Tambakis’ save earned 47 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday. Bethlehem Steel FC’s Jake McGuire finished second on 36 percent for his outstanding double-save against Penn FC’s Pedro Galvao and Calvin Rezende, while Phoenix Rising FC’s Carl Woszczynski finished third for his diving save that kept out a curling effort by Fresno FC’s Pedro Ribeiro.
