Roughnecks shot-stopper claimed second award of the season for save against Fresno

TAMPA, Fla. – Tulsa Roughnecks FC goalkeeper Fabian Cerda has claimed his second USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week award of the season, taking the honor for Week 20 of the 2018 season for his denial of a long-range strike by Fresno FC’s Jemal Johnson this past Saturday at ONEOK Field finished top of the weekly online poll.

Cerda leads the USL with 81 saves this season including a number that have put him in the spotlight throughout the 2018 season. The Chilean produced another excellent save to keep Johnson from adding to his personal highlight reel for the season as Cerda reacted well to a screened shot from just outside the penalty area, punching it to safety as it curled toward the top-right corner of the net.

Cerda’s save earned 55 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. Real Monarchs SLC’s Jake Leeker finished second with 34 percent for his point-blank save on Phoenix Rising FC’s Chris Cortez last Saturday night, while the New York Red Bulls II’s Evan Louro finished third for his outstanding stop on the Tampa Bay Rowdies’ Stefano Bonomo at Al Lang Stadium.
