North Carolina shot-stopper’s outstanding denial against Louisville takes top spot in online poll

TAMPA, Fla. – North Carolina FC goalkeeper Alex Tambakis has earned the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Month for June, earning his second monthly award this season for an outstanding denial against Louisville City FC on June 23 at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park finished on top in the online poll conducted this weekend.

Tambakis had previously earned the Fans’ Choice Save of the Month award in April and added to that thanks to a key save in NCFC’s home clash with the defending USL Cup champion. After making a good initial save with his feet, Louisville recovered possession as midfielder Speed Williams found space 25 yards from goal. The Jamaican’s shot was pegged for the top-left corner, but Tambakis produced a top-shelf stop to turn the effort aside.

Tambakis’ save received 68 percent of the online poll conducted at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Monday morning. FC Cincinnati’s Evan Newton took second place with 18 percent for his punched save against North Carolina FC that denied Daniel Rios, while the Portland Timbers 2’s Alex Mangels finished third on 11 percent for his full-stretch save to keep out a long-range effort by San Antonio FC’s Mikey Lopez at Toyota Field.
