TAMPA, Fla. – ATL UTD 2 goalkeeper Justin Garces has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 16 of the 2018 season for his reaction save against Nashville SC this past Saturday at First Tennessee Park, which finished top of the weekly online poll.
The starting goalkeeper for the U.S. U17 National Team at the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup last fall, Garces joined Atlanta as an Academy signing this season and made his second appearance of the season last Saturday night against Nashville SC. Garces produced an excellent save to deny NSC forward Brandon Allen’s rebound effort, recovering to punch the ball clear after the initial shot had come off the left post to allow Allen a second chance at goal.
Garces’ save earned 45 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Friday. Louisville City FC’s Greg Ranjitsingh finished second with 33 percent for his double-save against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC last Wednesday night, while Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s Dan Lynd took third with 17 percent for his victory-saving stop in the same contest that denied Louisville’s Brian Ownby in second-half stoppage time.
