Five candidates selected for standout performances during opening month of season

TAMPA, Fla. – The USL announced on Thursday the five nominees for the USL Player of the Month award for June, with top performers from the past month of the 2018 season selected for the ballot.

Voting in the USL Player of the Month Award will be conducted by the following three voting bodies:

  • A fan vote on USLSoccer.com will comprise 51 percent of the poll. The fan vote will run through Monday, June 11 at 12 p.m. ET.
  • The USL Technical Committee’s ballots comprise 25 percent of the poll.
  • The USL National Media Panel’s ballots comprise 24 percent of the poll.

The award winner and complete voting results will be announced on Thursday, July 12.

Please note: The USL Player of the Month selections process in no way is tied directly to the voting and selection process of End of the Year awards such as USL MVP or position players of the year.

2018 USL Player of the Month Nominees – June

- Lucky Mkosana, Penn FC – Mkosana recorded a league-best five goals in May in three appearances, all on the road, an average of a goal every 50.3 minutes for the Zimbabwean veteran.

- Sammy Ochoa, Las Vegas Lights FC – Ochoa recorded four goals and two assists in a breakout month for the veteran forward that also saw him record eight key passes for the side.

- Emmanuel Ledesma, FC Cincinnati – Ledesma continued his standout season with four goals and one assist to become the lone player currently in the top three in both categories in the league this season.

- Chandler Hoffman, Real Monarchs SLC – Hoffman recorded three goals and two assists in four games as the Monarchs took three wins out of four to remain on top of the Western Conference standings.

- James Musa, Phoenix Rising FC – Musa played a key role as Rising FC posted five consecutive shutouts over the month, recording 13 interceptions, 10 tackles and winning 29 of 43 duels across the month.
