THREE THINGS THAT MATTERED

1. Reno 1868 FC extended its club-record undefeated streak to 14 games – and moved into third place in the Western Conference standings – with arguably its best performance of the regular season in a 3-0 victory against Western Conference-leader Real Monarchs SLC. Brian Brown scored twice in the win, and now has five goals in his past five games, while Antoine Hoppenot moved into a tie for the league-lead with his eighth assist of the campaign.

2. 1868 FC’s victory made the top of the Western Conference standings that little bit more interesting, especially with Real Monarchs SLC now heading to face Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night. With Orange County also picking up victory on Wednesday, there’s a chance the race for the conference-lead could become tighter by the end of this week’s action.

3. Orange County’s fifth road victory came at the expense of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, with Michael Seaton’s goal after just 89 seconds proving the winner as the Switchbacks missed a penalty kick with 10 minutes to go to miss out on potentially taking a point at Weidner Field. The loss puts added pressure on the eighth-place Switchbacks as they head to face OKC Energy FC this Saturday night.

GAME REPORTS

RENO 1868 FC (3), REAL MONARCHS SLC (0)

Reno 1868 FC extended its undefeated streak to 14 games as Brian Brown struck twice in a 3-0 victory against Western Conference-leader Real Monarchs SLC before a crowd of 5,125 fans at Greater Nevada Field. Reno took the lead in the 32nd minute as a pair of headers in the penalty area from a corner kick set up Luis Felipe for a close-range finish at the top of the six-yard area. Antoine Hoppenot notched his eighth assist of the season in the 57th minute as a great combination with Tommy Thompson set up Brown to double 1868 FC’s lead, and Brown added his second of the night with a fine volleyed finish 10 minutes later. Brown had a chance at a hat trick, only for his penalty kick to be saved by Monarchs goalkeeper Jake Leeker, but it proved academic as Reno moved into third place in the Western Conference.

Brian Brown, Reno 1868 FC
– Brown produced a pair of excellent finishes to move to seven goals overall this season as he provided the goals on a stellar night for 1868 FC’s attack overall.

COLORADO SPRINGS SWITCHBACKS FC (0), ORANGE COUNTY SC (1)

Orange County SC took a 1-0 victory against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field to rebound from defeat in its most recent outing. It took Orange County less than 90 seconds to open the scoring through Michael Seaton, and the visitors then defended strongly as goalkeeper Casey Beyers made a key save late in the first half to keep out the Switchbacks’ Saeed Robinson in a one-on-one chance. Colorado Springs was handed a lifeline with 10 minutes to go when it was awarded a penalty kick, but Jordan Burt shot wide of the left post to squander the chance and Orange County saw out a big road win from there to move into the top four of the Western Conference.
