TAMPA, Fla. – Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC forward Shane Malcolm has claimed the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for Week 15 of the 2018 season as late game-winner in the Switchbacks’ victory against Fresno FC last Saturday night took top spot in the weekly online poll.
With one of the weekend’s key Western Conference’s matchups still scoreless as it entered the closing stages, the Switchbacks were given an opportunity from a free kick 28 yards from goal just to the right of center that Malcolm took full advantage of. The Guam international stepped up and produced an outstanding right-footed finish to the top-right corner that earned his side a vital three points.
Malcolm’s goal earned 38 percent of the poll conducted online at USLSoccer.com that concluded on Thursday. Reno 1868 FC’s Jerry van Ewijk finished second on 34 percent for his curling free kick to the top-left corner that also led his side to victory against San Antonio FC, while Sacramento Republic FC’s Cameron Iwasa finished third on 14 percent for his outstanding individual run and finish against Saint Louis FC.
